Tips to Budget for Your Bengali Brahmin Matrimony

Check out these tips to save some money on your wedding and spend it on your married life or honeymoon!

The wedding season follows Diwali and is in the chillier months of November, December, January, and February. Ditch the trend! Choose to get married during the offseason, your expenses will be lesser. However, you can miss out on a more affordable cost of food during the winter months.

For a traditional Bengali wedding, you will require at least 3 days of events, these include the sangeet and the Haldi, the wedding, and the bou bhaat. Do not have more events or cut down your events so that your expenses are also reduced. Try to pack in as many events on the same day as possible.

Do not plan on inviting EVERYONE. The food budget will shoot up in case you decide you want everyone’s blessings at your wedding. Hence, put a cap of around 200 or 250 people at your wedding. The finances it will take to feed your guests around four meals is quite a lot so you need to reduce your guest list.

For a real budget wedding, do not try party lawns and luxurious venues, instead, you can try local banquet halls and school gymnasiums. You can try even the rooftop of your own house. Unconventional settings can be chosen for your wedding like a friend’s farmhouse and or a neighbour’s garden.

While you do want to serve your friends, family and guests the best food, you do not have to show off or impress anyone with the menu. You don’t have to have a wide range of cuisines as far as Thailand or Japan, nor do you have to cater for the fussy eaters. Make sure you have a mix of vegetarian and non-vegetarian foods at your wedding and that’s it, you’re sorted!

Don’t splurge on décor as the wedding is just for a couple of days. Instead, create a unique selfie corner, or just decorate the podium, the rest of the venue can be left bare or have only a modicum of decoration. This way you will save yourself a couple of bucks which you can use to set up your home or go on your honeymoon.

Obviously, the bridal clothes and trousseau need to be grand. However, that does not mean you break the bank. What you can do is take some time out and look for discounts on various online shopping stores. This way you will be getting the very best quality, at a fraction of the cost.

The Bengali Brahmin matrimony is a big, jolly affair, but it does not have to be the event that ruins you financially. We hope our tips to minimise expenses help you have an affordable yet fairy-tale wedding.
